Enterprise SaaS and the Mobile Entrepreneur’s Head in the Cloud

Once again, Phile Wainewright of ZD NET, nailed the true description of Software as a Service (SaaS). Within his post at http://blogs.zdnet.com/SAAS/?p=438, he has described why the SaaS model makes business sense. Many believe that SaaS is the Web 3.0 description as well.

Look at this…

Google and Salesforce.com both open the API, the merger into the social business class setting. This is not just a nice gesture between the two firms, there is money to be made. http://venturebeat.com/2008/04/14/google-and-salesforce-love-the-cloud-love-each-other/

So does this mean the entrepreneur no longer has to build all of the components to the entire business vision? Can the entrepreneur really trust the third party services of ‘others’ who claim they have already invested heavy into reliable, scalable infrastructure, code and documentation, support and experience to be profitable? Can we trust this to build our business models around?

This relationship in the cloud requires the right API service provider and service provider who don’t want to compete against your idea, they simply want to AGGREGATE trust. This also depends on API. Open API or at least contractual, for profit, API.

We have our company jewels on the line here, as we are banking on the SaaS model not only from our company to our enterprise clients, but as a client of those who open their API to Push Mobile Media. WOW. It’s a very big deal.

If SaaS does not serve us well we lose our reputation and our brand. So we plead with those companies who offer their API to the small entrepreneurial start-ups, be gentle with us, take care of us so we can grow and profit as well.

The SaaS model is very social and it can back fire in “one mobile minute”, well at least within our Enterprise Mobile solution that is the case. We are depending on the aggregators to stay true to their business models and help the entrepreneur reach our goals. Listen to us. Keep us happy. Build our brand too.

A special thanks to Phile Waynewright of ZDnet for the article and leadership reporting on whats going on in the Saas / Web 3.0 world.
